The best invoice scanning software is the one that reads your vendors' invoices, line items included, and gets the data into your AP system, sending a person only the values it is unsure about. Developer teams can start with per-page or per-invoice APIs from Amazon Textract or Veryfi. AP teams that want review, validation, and ERP connections in one product can look at Docsumo, Doxis AI.dp (formerly Klippa DocHorizon), Nanonets, or Rossum. super.AI suits teams that want to start from one real invoice and see each step of the flow. This guide covers seven tools and how to test them on your own invoices.
super.AI publishes this guide and is one of the seven tools listed. Tools appear in alphabetical order and are not ranked. Competitor details come from each vendor's own website, checked October 15, 2026, and may change. We make no claims about any tool's accuracy. All product names are trademarks of their owners.
Most invoice OCR tools read a clean PDF well. The differences show up on the invoices you actually receive. Look for:
Our guides to invoice data capture and touchless invoice processing cover the basics of invoice processing automation. For how extraction breaks in practice, see why invoice and PDF data extraction fails.
How to start, published pricing, and deployment, as each vendor states it on its own website, checked October 15, 2026.
AWS says AnalyzeExpense "extracts relevant data such as vendor and receiver contact information, from almost any invoice or receipt without the need for any templates or configuration." It returns summary fields such as invoice date, total, tax, and due date, and line-item fields such as item, quantity, and unit price. The response includes confidence values.
Good fit for: engineering teams on AWS that want an invoice API inside their own application.
Worth checking: what you will build yourself, such as review screens and export to your AP system.
Docsumo says its invoice software "reads, checks and posts every invoice." It says "a 40-line invoice becomes one table, with page three's rows under page one's headers." It runs "math, vendor and duplicate checks on every invoice, and PO matching on the Enterprise plan." Exceptions go to a review queue, and "reviewer corrections improve the model."
Good fit for: AP teams that want math and duplicate checks before an invoice posts.
Worth checking: whether you need PO matching, which it lists on the Enterprise plan, and how its API and webhook output maps to your ERP.
Klippa now operates as Doxis. Its March 30, 2026 announcement says "Klippa DocHorizon will be known as Doxis AI.dp." Its invoice OCR page lists header fields, line items, and "automated validation and matching, including two-way matching." It describes fraud checks using "smart metadata, copy-move, and grayscale analysis." It lists exports including JSON, CSV, XML, XLSX, and UBL.
Good fit for: teams that want EU hosting, invoice fraud checks, and many export formats.
Worth checking: pricing for your volume, which is quoted on request, and language coverage: it says it "supports all Latin-alphabet languages."
Nanonets' invoice OCR page lists fields such as invoice number, PO number, and VAT ID, and line items such as quantity and unit price. It says you can "leverage decision engines to flag, review, validate files, or enhance your extracted/missing data." It names integrations with QuickBooks, Xero, and Salesforce, and export "as XLS, CSV, or XML."
Good fit for: finance teams that want to start without a card and send results to an accounting system it names.
Worth checking: how credits map to your monthly invoice volume, and which integrations your plan includes.
Rossum's accounts payable page leads with "AP solutions for global scale. Zero templates. Fast ROI." It lists "2/3/4-way matching" and names integrations including SAP, Coupa, NetSuite, Workday, and Microsoft Dynamics. As of October 15, 2026, its homepage carries a banner reading "Coupa Acquires Rossum."
Good fit for: larger AP teams that need multi-way matching and ERP or spend management integrations.
Worth checking: which plan covers your volume, since only Starter has a published price, and its one-year minimum contract.
super.AI Flows starts from your document. Upload a file, describe what you need in plain language, and super.AI builds the flow and shows each step. Low-confidence results go to human review, and corrections carry into the next run. Outputs include CSV, JSON, and Google Sheets. For enterprise teams, super.AI offers SOC 2 Type II and contractual commitments. Read more about invoice processing with super.AI.
Good fit for: AP teams that want to start on their own from one real invoice.
Worth checking: whether CSV, JSON, or Google Sheets fits your AP or ERP import, and which enterprise terms you need.
Veryfi's invoice API page says it returns structured JSON with "line items, vendor, tax, totals," plus "scores & bounding boxes." It offers SDKs, webhooks, and a "Camera SDK for Mobile." Its AP page says "Veryfi is SOC 2 Type 2 certified."
Good fit for: developers who want a per-invoice API with a free plan and mobile capture.
Worth checking: the Starter minimum commitment against your volume, and what you will build for review and ERP export.
A short side-by-side trial on your own files tells you more than vendor pages.
Invoice scanning software reads invoices from PDFs, scans, photos, and email attachments. It pulls out header fields and line items and passes the data to your AP or accounting system, usually with a review step for uncertain values.
Not quite. Invoice OCR is the step that reads the text. Invoice scanning software usually adds field mapping, validation, review, and export. OCR can read every character correctly and still put a value in the wrong field.
According to their websites, super.AI is free to start with no credit card and no sales call required. Veryfi offers a free 14-day trial with no credit card, and Nanonets starts accounts with $50 in free credits. Docsumo and Rossum offer 14-day trials.
Amazon Textract lists $0.01 per page for its first million Analyze Expense pages in US West (Oregon). Veryfi lists $0.16 per invoice on Starter. Rossum lists Starter at $18,000 per year. Docsumo, Doxis, and Nanonets quote larger plans. super.AI is free to start.
We build one of these tools, so we included it and said so at the top. We listed all seven alphabetically, used each vendor's own website for facts, and noted where another tool may suit you better.
